General Information

Microsoft Office helps you complete common business tasks, including word processing, email, presentations, data management and analysis, and more.

Minimum System Requirements

  • A PC running Windows Vista, Windows 7, Windows 8 or Windows 8.1
  • A 500-MHz or faster processor (1.0 GHz or faster recommended)
  • 256 MB of RAM (1 GB or more recommended)
  • 3.5 GB of free hard disk space
  • 1024 x 768 or higher resolution monitor
  • Graphics hardware acceleration requires DirectX 9.0c graphic card with 64 MB or more video memory

Departments may purchase this software through the ITS Site License Office using the downgrade option. UH faculty, staff, and students may purchase the most current version of Microsoft Office for personal use through the University of Hawaii Bookstore. Additionally, this version of MS Office may be available from other computer software retailers.

Microsoft Office comes in 32-bit and 64-bit versions. The 64-bit version only runs on 64-bit versions of Windows. For general business productivity usage, the 32-bit version of Microsoft Office is sufficient.

Service Patches/Updates

In Vista/Windows 7, click the Start button, click All Programs, and click Windows Update.

In Windows 8/8.1, press Windows key + C key to get to the Charms bar, click Search. Type windows update in the search box. Click Windows Update.
