McAfee AntiVirus Plus (formerly known as McAfee VirusScan Plus) is a security suite that includes anti-virus, anti-spyware, personal firewall, data protection, and PC optimization software. The current available version is McAfee AntiVirus Plus v11.6 (MAVP 11.6).

McAfee Antivirus Plus v11.6 is compatible with Windows XP SP3 or higher (32-bit), Windows Vista SP1 (32-bit and 64-bit), Windows 7 (32-bit and 64-bit), and Windows 8 Pro (32-bit and 64-bit). Other system requirements include 1 GHz processor, and 2GB RAM (or more) for Vista and Windows 7.

It is site licensed by ITS for active UH affiliates for use on their Windows computers. Affiliated users include current East-West Center participants, Research Corporation of the University of Hawaii employees and University of Hawaii Foundation employees.

The current subscription for this software expires on December 31, 2014. If you are still affiliated with UH when the subscription expires, you would need to obtain an updated copy of the software.

Upon termination of UH affiliation, customers must uninstall all site license copies of McAfee software, per our site license agreement with McAfee.

Instructions to Install McAfee AntiVirus Plus

1. Download McAfee AntiVirus Plus from http://www.hawaii.edu/askus/1247
2. Save a copy of the file (mavp116.exe) on your desktop.
3. Ensure that you are logged with an account that has administrator privileges. Close all applications.
4. If you have an older version of McAfee AntiVirus Plus, please uninstall it and REBOOT.
5. Double click on the icon for mavp116.exe.
6. When the User Account Control message "Do you want to allow the following program (McAfee, Inc.) to make changes to this computer?"" appears, click Yes.
7. On the Install McAfee AntiVirus Plus window, read the license agreement and check I have read and accept the license agreement. Uncheck, if desired, Send anonymous usage information to McAfee. Click Install button. Please wait while the application is installed.
8. On the Installation Complete window, click Next.

You must register your software to activate it. Use a valid email address to register.

On the Get Protected window,

9. Select "I already have an existing McAfee account" and
   • enter your email address (McAfee account) and the password for your McAfee account.
10. OR select "I do not have a McAfee account" and create one.
    • Enter your first and last name, a valid email address (which becomes your McAfee account) and password (twice) for your McAfee account.
11. THEN select "I agree" to the McAfee End User License Agreement and click Next.
12. On the Activation Successful window, click Finish.

Restart your computer. After restarting, check for updates.

1. Click the up arrow (show hidden icons) in the lower right. Right click on the red M icon.
2. Click check for updates in the menu.
3. Please wait while McAfee checks for updates. After updates are installed successfully, click the Done button.

Check which version of McAfee AntiVirus Plus you are running.

1. Click the up arrow (show hidden icons) in the lower right. Right click on the red M icon.
2. Click Open McAfee AntiVirus Plus.
3. Click About on the upper right.
4. The McAfee SecurityCenter version is the McAfee AntiVirus Plus version (11.6).
5. Scroll down to the McAfee VirusScan settings.
6. VirusScan should report the DAT version and scan engine (5500.1093 or later). The DAT is current if the DAT creation date is today's date.
