From the General Menu (GUAGMNU), go to GUAPMNU by typing it in the Direct Access box. You will be taken to the My Banner Maintenance form. On the left column you will see a list of forms. Click to highlight the forms that you want to have on your personal menu, then click on the arrow pointing right to move that form to your personal menu. When you have finished selecting the forms you want displayed, click on Save. Then exit Banner and login again. At the General Menu, click on My Banner (the first option on the tree) and you will see the chosen forms displayed.
*I am encountering problems articulating courses on SHATAEQ that
I never experienced before. What changed or what am I doing wrong?
After you enter the transfer course information in 6x, you need to SAVE before you perform the articulation.
*When I attempt to "Extract Data No Key", I'm not given the option to "Open" or "Save" the file. Instead, the extracted data is incorrectly formatted within an Internet Explorer window. How can I save the file in Excel?
First, double click on the "My Computer" icon on your desktop. From the top bar, click on "Tools" and when the menu drops down, click on "Folders Options". When they appear, click on the "File Types" tab. Scroll down the alpha list of Registered File Types until you see XLS and then click once to select it. Click on the "Advanced" button. When the Edit File Type window appears, check the box for "Confirm open after download" box and then click "OK." This should solve the problem.
*Last year, Microsoft users of Banner were instructed not to
install SP2. Should I be installing it now?
SP2 is scheduled to be automatically installed in mid-April on machines
using XP. Until that time, information is being gathered from some
Banner users who have downloaded and installed SP2 in advance, so their
experiences can be shared with other users, i.e., so all can be alerted
on how to avoid or work around known problems.
*I used to be able to extract data from Banner forms onto an Excel
spreadsheet, but now I find that I can't do that anymore. Why is this happening?
If you were once able to execute the extract data function but suddenly
find you are no longer able to do this, the two most common reasons are: 1) your browser has a pop-up blocker, or
2) you have SP2 installed.
*How can I disable the pop-up blocker so I can extract data from
Banner as I did before?
Go to the blocker menu (next to the Pop-Up icon) and choose "Pop-ups
Allowed."
*If I have SP2 installed, how can I overcome the block on the
extract data function?
You can do this one of two ways - by making Banner and MyUH trusted
sites, or by changing the security settings for your Internet access.
To add trusted sites, click on "Tools" on the upper most toolbar, then
click on "Internet Options" on the drop down menu. When the tabs
appear, click on "Security," then click on the "Trusted Sites" icon
(green circle with check mark), then click on the "Sites" button. In
the first window, enter the url for Banner
(http://banner.sis.hawaii.ed) and click "Add", then enter the url for
MyUH (http://myuh.hawaii.edu). Click "Add" again and then click "OK."
For the alternative method, follow the first three steps above and
after clicking on "Security," click on the Internet icon (the first
globe), then click on "Custom Level...", look for "Automatic prompting
for file downloads" and ensure that the radio button for "Enable" is
selected, then click "OK."
*Sometimes I lose my Banner session for no reason. It just seems to
suddenly "disappear." What could be occurring?
If you are using shortcuts, this could occur if you launch another
progam (e.g., Discoverer or STAR) while you're also using Banner. To
fix this problem, go to the toolbar and click on "Tools," then click
on "Internet Options" (the last menu item), then click on
the "Advanced" tab. When the menu displays, scroll down to "Reuse
window for launching shortcuts" and uncheck it, then click OK. This
should fix your problem.
*I need to make a change on a student's registration record but when I go to SFAREGS, I get an error message: "Student has not been enrolled since Re-Admit Term, cannot register" even though I KNOW the student is registered. Why is this happening?
Periodically each institution is required to submit a report to the
National Clearinghouse of all students enrolled by home institution.
When the report is processed, a change in the definition of enrollment
is made in Banner so students who completely withdrew are not
considered to be enrolled. During this processing period when this
change is in effect, students who completely withdrew the semester
before are considered to be ineligible students, hence, the error
message. The processing period is usually one day. Please check with
the registrar on your campus to find out if the report is being
processed when you encounter this error message. That would be the
most likely explanation for this error, so unless you are processing a
critical transaction, you just need to wait until the next day (after
the Clearinghouse processing has been completed) to make your entries.
*I can't print reports from Banner. What could be wrong?
There are three basic requirements to print from Banner. First,
the printer MUST have a static IP address, and NOT dynamic IP
addresses such as DHCP. Secondly, when the printer's IP address
changes, a notice must be filed to the Banner ID Management Team at:
banner-idmgmt@hawaii.edu to inform them of the change. Third, in order
for the printer to be configured correctly, the SNMP must be turned on,
and the SNMP domain MUST be set to PUBLIC. Unless these conditons are
met, users will not be able to print from Banner.
*Are there any special requirements for
Mac users?
Administrative users with Macs need to be sure they have
Mac OS X for Banner 6x. ( Mac OS9 will not work.) Mac users do not need to
load the J-Initiator. Mac users who will only access Banner through
Academic Services via the portal will be fine with OS9.
*What happens when students forget to click on "Complete
This Registration Session" on the web?
In the past, the correct tuition and fees would not be
assessed if the student did not click on the "Complete This Registration
Session." However, in 6x, this is no longer a requirement. Instructions on the
web still direct students to this page, primarily because other important
information is posted there. Eventually, these instructions will be updated.
*Do all users need the J-Initiator to run Banner?
No, only administrative users who access the Banner forms
need the J-Initiator. Mac users do not need the J-Initiator.
*I know I need to download the J-Initiator to use with 6x
but cannot. What should I do?
If you do not have access as an administrator for your
computer, you will not be able to install the J-Initiator. Please contact the
computer specialist who provides support to your department or division for
assistance, or call the ITS Help desk at 956-8883. For specific steps on how to
download the J-Initiator, please go to:
http://www.hawaii.edu/jinit

*I am not familiar with the new fields
and forms in 6x. What can I do to "try things out" before I start
entering information in Banner?
You may use the training database at:
http://frm10.its.hawaii.edu:8005 to practice. It can be accessed by using the same ID and password you have in UH, and should be available by Feb. 11.
*I am trying to access SPAMEDI but get the message that it
is invalid. What happened to that form?
SPAMEDI has been replaced by GOAMEDI.
*When I'm at the main menu, I want to see the names of the
forms but only the descriptions display. How can I see the form names?
To see the names of the forms, you need to re-set your
user's preferences.
1) In the direct access box, type GUAUPRF
2) When the form comes up, change "Form Name Display Option" from "Not
Displayed" to "Display in Both Menu Bar Options" (first choice) and click "OK."
3) Now log out of Banner by clicking on the blue box with the white X and
log back in
