Center for Biographical Research

University of Hawai`i at Manoa

History and Purpose

The Center for Biographical Research (CBR) of the University of Hawai`i at Manoa is dedicated to the interdisciplinary study of life writing. Founded in 1976 and incorporated as a formal University Center in 1988, CBR is designed to facilitate and encourage the study and practice of biography in all its forms. Center programs include teaching, publication, and outreach activities, all directed toward expanding the understanding of biography. To fulfill this goal, the Center serves as a meeting place and forum for an international array of biographers, scholars, and students.

Additionally, CBR staff are available to consult with students, scholars, and the biographical community on their work in life writing.

CBR invites all members of the UH community to deposit their memoirs, published or unpublished, in its resource collection to be made available for interested researchers.
