Hakuoh University Handbell Choir Concerts
February 18, 7:00pm - 8:30pmWindward Campus, Paliku Theatre
Just in time to ring in the New Year, the Hakuoh University Handbell Choir returns to Hawai'i for its 18th annual goodwill tour, sharing its brand of handbell music.
A sister college of the University of Hawai‘i Community Colleges, Hakuoh University and its 16-member choir led by acclaimed director Hirotaka Arai, will be performing at several free public concerts around the island.
Celebrating its 21th anniversary, the internationally recognized handbell choir will perform a range of selections from classical standards including Mozart’s “Le nozze di Figaro” to contemporary hits from the musical Lion King. The choir has the capacity to ring seven octaves of handbells and their dedication to practice and performance has created worldwide demand for their music.
From their home in Oyama City, Tochigi prefecture, Japan, Hakuoh’s all-female ensemble has traveled to performances in Canada, England and Australia and has entertained audiences including the Emperor and Empress of Japan and the King and Queen of Belgium. In August 2008, the choir attended the International Handbell Symposium/Performance in Orlando, FL., and also performed at the Magic Kingdom at Disney World. This past Christmas, they performed at the Tokyo Disneyland.
Admission to all performances is free and open to the public. Additional information is available by calling (808) 956-0321.
