HCC Great Aloha Run Team (#47)
February 15, 6:30am - 1:00pmHonolulu Campus, Aloha Tower to Aloha Stadium
The Great Aloha Run is a charity event that walks, runs or rolls from Aloha Tower to Aloha Stadium to raise funds for the collective Carol Kai Charities. There is a place in the Great Aloha Run for everyone who wants to participate. It is for people of ALL ability levels. It is this inclusive philosophy that reflects the Hawaiian name for this race - “Ke kukini me ke aloha pau‘ole” — the race with compassionate love.
The HCC Great Aloha Run Team Sign Up is underway. We are Code#47. Be sure you indicate this on GAR Entry Form in the area for "100 Club Code." Our team is open to students, faculty, staff, families, friends, supporters of all kinds. THE PRIORITY DEADLINE WAS DECEMBER 4. You can still be a supporter.
The GAR Entry Form is attached at the bottom of this event listing.
HCC Team Members can look forward to being part of the first college team to join GAR as a 100 Club. At this date we no longer promise our late additions will get a team shirt. We will give you a special kudos just for signing up. Many on the team refer to this event as the GAR Walk because we come out for the cause not to be first across the finish line. Our team focuses on being happy and healthy while supporting this charity event. Our finishers who had never been this distance, have stroller babies, once thought themselves too old and so on make us proud to have been an inclusive team encouraging community and health.
- Want to walk together? For those who would like to walk start out with the HCC contingent, let's meet at the bus stop near the main branch of Bank of Hawaii, Bishop Street side near Jamba Juice at 6:30 a.m.
Missed meeting up with the rest of us? If you cannot reach our staging area at the Bank of Hawaii, start from where you are. We'll see you somewhere along the route or at the pizza party at the stadium or on campus at our HCC After GAR Get Together picnic.
After GAR Celebration - Stadium and at HCC: - 8am to 11am - Presidents' 100 Club Papa John's Pizza Party This is for Presidents' 100 Club members only and you must wear your special wristband (the one you got in your Presidents' 100 Goodie Bag) to access the Pizza Party. After picking up your Finisher's T-shirt, walk to the right all the way down the concourse level to sections FF, GG, and HH. There will be banners to direct you to this area.
10:00am to 1:00pm - HCC GAR Get Together Picnic at HCC (Parking lot #2) The HCC GAR Get Together Picnic will be held after the event under the monkeypod trees at HCC in parking lot # 2. The After GAR Get Together Picnic is being sponsored, planned, and prepared by the capable people of the Apprenticeship Ohana so you know there will be ono food, cool beverages, and good fun. Some of you asked if you can bring/donate anything. Yes, of course, donations of dessert, etc., are most welcome. All participants and sponsors are cordially invited to attend. There will be picnic benches under the shade of the monkeypod trees, but if you want to rest your behind on something soft, bring a lawn chair. Please RSVP if you can come by replying to this email or calling any GAR committee member so we can get an approximate count. If you are not sure until after GAR if you'll be able to make it, don't worry, come anyway. You'll feel so good at having finished, fatigue will fade away and hunger will set in. The best thing is that you will be in good company.
Suggestions: - There will be porta-toilets in downtown area but if you're parking at Aloha Stadium and have enough time before boarding the shuttle, use the ones there as they'll be less crowded. - Please offer rides to any HCC Ohana (easy to spot with their bright and beautiful orange t-shirts) who may need a ride to campus, especially students.
