After the 3.11 nuclear accident, food contamination became one of the major concerns for Japanese citizens. This talk examines women’s social mobilizations around the safety of the public school lunch program that emerged throughout Japan after the disaster. It identifies social sanctions against the women who demanded safety measures and points to various constraints on women’s activism.
