Denis Rodill: A Filipino Rascal

September 13, 4:00pm - 5:00pm
Hawaii's Plantation Village, Social Hall, 94-695 Waipahu Street, Waipahu, HI 96797

At 14 years of age Denis Rodill left the Philippines aboard a U.S. Army transport ship, eventually traversing the migrant worker circuit from Seattle's waterfront, Kauai's sugar plantations, Alaska's salmon canneries and Weyerhaeuser's lumber industry. This presentation of Rodill's life is an example of the mostly unrecorded lives of early Filipino sakadas who moved from place to place to fulfill "the American dream." This event is sponsored by the Filipino-American Historical Society of Hawaii, Hawaii's Plantation Village, the UHM Office of Multicultural Student Services and 4Culture.
