Current Topics in Methane Hydrates by Stephen M. Masutani, Associate Researcher, Hawaii Natural Energy Institute. A brief primer on methane hydrates will be presented, followed by a review of topics of current interest and research being pursued at the Hawaii Natural Energy Institute. Areas that will be discussed include exploration and exploitation of hydrates for future energy, seafloor stability, and environmental implications. A new project on subsea power from seafloor methane will be introduced.
