All-Deaf Rock Band Releases World's First Professional Album "Turn It Up Louder?" Beethoven's Nightmare's Cross-Over Deaf Rock Defies Global Deafness Stereotypes. Being an accomplished musician is very, very difficult. It's not as easy as it looks. Then add the phenomena of deafness and you have a Herculean epic. Such is the journey of three deaf musicians, Beethoven's Nightmare. After more than 30 years of performing before deaf audiences across the United States of America, the all-deaf rock and roll band Beethoven's Nightmare has crossed-over to appeal to the hearing music world with the historic recording of its first album, "Turn It Up Louder."
Hawaii music and entertainment critics, reporters, senior writers, editors publishers are invited Hawaii Public Radio’s Atherton Studio, Sunday, May 22, 1-3 p.m., (Kaheka Street in Honolulu) for the world premiere launch of “Turn It Up Louder� Beethoven’s Nightmare’s first album. The album is arguable the first of its kind on planet earth.
The event, with light refreshments is co-presented by the University of Hawaii College of Education Center on Disability Studies, with co-producers Koke Kula Records and VSA arts of Hawaii-Pacific.
Complimentary copies of the CD will be available for media representatives with outlet credentials. On hand will be Beethoven’s Nightmare band members, Hawaii-based back-up singers Troy and Cheesa Laureta (hearing). Koke Kula Record producer and guitarist Ron Tish will discuss the making of the CD at Ocean Way Studio in Hollywood. University of Hawaii music professor and expert special needs musicians, Arthur Harvey will field questions related to the art and science of deaf music.
