Caring for Collections: Conservation Issues for Museums, Historical Societies, Libraries and Archives with Sherelyn Ogden. A major responsibility of cultural institutions is the care of their collections. To ensure the future existence of collections, those tasked with handling them must increase their knowledge of conservation practices and preservation management. This workshop gives participants the opportunity to examine the causes of deterioration of cultural objects and find out about preventative maintenance and the methods of care that slow deterioration.
Explore storage practices, including furniture and enclosures; handling practices; housekeeping procedures; and navigating supplier catalogs to choose appropriate boxes, file folders, and archival supports. Learn important cultural considerations in the care of American Indian and indigenous/Native objects. Limited enrollment.
