Summer Workshops on Preservation Planning and Exhibition
June 24, 9:00am - 4:00pmManoa Campus, Krauss 012 (Yukiyoshi Room)
Preservation Planning for Museums, Historical Societies, Libraries, and Archives with Sherelyn Ogden. Long-range preservation planning is essential for the care of collections. Successful plans should be derived from an informed self-study and relate to an institution's overall strategic plan. This workshop defines preservation planning and emphasizes the benefits of having a long-range planning document. Consider the planning process, the time and resources required, obtaining administration and staff support, the importance of following a methodology for drafting a long-range plan, and writing a competitive plan that may receive funding. Participants have an opportunity to begin drafting a specific plan for their cultural institution.
A 247-page optional workbook, published by American Association of Museums, including information on long-range planning methodology, worksheets, a checklist of the process, a sample plan and information on marketing the plan, is available for purchase at the workshop.
