Oxy-Nanoparticle Technology to Mineralize all Organic Compounds and Disinfect Microorganisms for Water Treatments. A novel Oxy-Nanoparticle technology generates free radicals to destroy organic chemicals and disinfect microorganisms. This technology is based on a novel mechanism mediated by zero valent iron or other metals, rather than commonly used reduction mechanism. The reaction power and kinetics can be readily controlled and standardized for various applications.
Applications of this technology have been demonstrated in a wide range of industrial effluents and domestic wastewater treatments for efficient pollutant mineralization and bacterial disinfection as well as recycling of human urine in aerospace. In addition, this technology can be used in analytical chemistry to measure carbohydrate and vitamin contents in fruits, juices, soft drinks and formulated drugs. The main advantages of this technology include economical, versatile, wide applications, efficient mineralization of organic pollutants, and efficient bacterial disinfection.
Dr. Jamil Rima got his PhD in Chemistry in 1982 from the University of Bordeaux, France. He has been a professor at the Lebanese University since 1984. Starting last year, he is also an adjunct professor in Lebanese American University, Lebanon. From 1993 to 1996, he served as an Advisor for the Minister the Environment of Lebanon. His research interests are analytical chemistry, remediation technology and photophysics and photochemistry.
