Peace Forum at the Capital
September 21, 3:30pm - 5:00pmState Capitol Auditorium
The topic for this forum "What Can Hawaii Bring To Peacemaking?" was inspired by a resolution of the Hawaii State Legislature, adopted in April 2007, requesting the Matsunaga Institute for Peace to convene a working group to explore the possibility of designating Hawaii as the “Geneva of the Pacific.” The panel begins this conversation by discussing some examples of peacemaking in Hawaii, while also exploring some of the controversial issues that continue to divide our community. We hope to foster a meaningful discussion on whether Hawaii can and should aspire to be a center for peacemaking in the Pacific region.
Speakers Include:
Kaleo Patterson, President, Pacific Justice and Reconciliation Center
Mervina Cash-Kaeo, President and CEO, Alu Like
Jon Van Dyke, Professor, William S. Richardson School of Law
Lou Ann Ha‘aheo Guanson, Executive Director, Pacific Justice and Reconciliation Center
Gary Hooser, Hawaii State Senator of the Seventh Senatorial District, will moderate.
