UH Centennial Celebration Concert

Celebrate the UH Centennial and the Music Department's 60th Anniversary as the UH Symphony Orchestra (Henry Miyamura, conductor), Chamber Singers & Concert Choir (Rachel Samet, director), Symphonic Wind Ensemble Brass (Grant Okamura, conductor), and Hula & Chant Ensembles (Vicky Holt Takamine, kumu hula) present a concert showcasing a variety of musical styles.
Included in the program are:
Century Fanfare for brass choir by UH faculty composer Byron Yasui
Welina Manoa, an oli chant by Keawe Lopes
Rossini's William Tell Overture
Ravel's Piano Concerto in G, (Allegramente), Thomas Yee, piano soloist
the Finale from Symphony No. 2 in D major, Op. 43 by Jean Sibelius
The Nostalgia of the Infinite by UH faculty composer Thomas Osborne
"Celebration" by UH faculty emeritus composer Neil McKay and Noel Okimoto, with soloists Noel Okimoto, percussion, and Dean Taba, double bass
Borodin's Polovetsian Dances
Centennial Celebration Poem for the University of Hawai‘i by Maori poet Robert Sullivan, read by Manoa Chancellor Virginia S. Hinshaw
Make Our Garden Grow from Bernstein's Candide, with faculty and alumni vocal soloists.
