Career, College & Job Fair

April 10, 9:00am - 1:00pm
Leeward Campus

College and high school students interested in pursuing career options are invited to the Career, College & Job Fair 2008, on Thursday, April 10, from 9 am to 1 pm at the Leeward Community College (LCC) campus. Over 90 area businesses and college programs will recruit and answer career-related questions.

The event serves as a career and workforce resource for students, businesses, colleges, and the community. This free fair is open to the public and sponsored by LCC, UH West O`ahu (UHWO), Leeward Partnership for School-to-Work (LPSTW), and GEAR UP Hawai`i.

More than 60 employers will recruit for part- and full-time positions and share information about their organizations. These include Hawaiian Electric Company, Kaiser Permanente, Servco Pacific, Dolphin Quest, Child and Family Service and many more. Hawaiian Electric Company will also test applicants on site for open positions.

Over 30 representatives from undergraduate and graduate university programs will share information on certificates, associate degrees, bachelor degrees and master degrees. Participating colleges include LCC, UHWO, UH-Manoa, Central Michigan University, and Argosy University.

During the fair, more than 300 students from area high schools (Pearl City, Kapolei, Campbell, Nanakuli and Waianae) will attend a career presentation emceed by local radio personality Kutmaster Spaz. The event encourages students to pursue a college degree by viewing a college and career-focused video produced by Nanakuli High School students. They will also listen to LCC and UHWO students who are continuing for advanced degrees or are currently employed in Hawaii’s workforce. Following the presentation (9 - 10 am), high school students will talk with employers in their career pathway.
