Population Movements and the Dynamics of Cultural Change
in Prehistoric South China

3:00 pm • 17 April 2008 • Saunders 345
Material cultures in Neolithic south China (ca. 10,000-3500 B.P.) underwent significant changes over time. The interpretations of these changes are subject to a researcher’s theoretical approaches. A series of new excavations and high-resolution dating allow a new perspective on the impacts of population fluctuations upon the dynamics of major cultural transformations in prehistoric south China. These population movements carry significant implications for understanding the prehistory of China, southeast Asia as well as the Pacific.
