Spring Symposium of Undergraduate Research & Creative Work

The annual Spring Symposium celebrates undergraduate research and creative work at the University of Hawaii at Manoa. Recipients of the Vice Chancellor's Undergraduate Summer Research, and other undergraduate students from various programs across the campus will be presenting their research or creative work in the form of posters and oral presentations. UH faculty and administrators will serve as moderators and judges.

Nearly 50 students will be presenting their research on a wide range of topics ranging from documentation of endangered languages in Indonesia and the American Northwest to remittance behavior of Filipinos in Hawaii and deconstruction of the art of Andy Warhol. Other interesting topics covered by our student researchers include: ROTC: The Conflict of Gender; Bush and bin Laden: The Rhetoric of Culture, Politics and War; Taste Preference in Free-Flying Honeybees; Cyberloafing: Personal Internet Use at Work; The Antiviral Role of RNA in Penaeid Shrimp Infected with Taura Syndrome Virus; Glucose Regulation of Selenoprotein Expression in Neuronal Cells; The Dream Methaphor in Classic & Post Film Noir; Arthurian (King Arthur) Legend as a Nationalist Myth; Na Hua Maoil a Na Hua Malihini: A User's Guide to Seeds/Seedlings; Intimate Partner Violence Services in Hawaii; Laboratory Experiments of Tidal Dispersion around Irregular Boundaries; Assessing Needs for Financial Planning Services within Native Hawaiian Communities; and Influence of Sediment Composition on Redox Speciation and Benthic Oxidation Rates.
