Engineering Innovation and Research with a Human Face
Cathy Leslie will introduce Engineering Without Borders, a not-for-profit organization that began in a Mayan Village in 2000. According to Dr. Paul Polak of International Development Enterprises – the majority of the world’s designers focus all their efforts on infrastructure for the world’s most affluent customers. EWB-USA believes that it’s time for the rest of the world to benefit from the technical expertise that the engineering profession can provide. EWB-USA is a humanitarian engineering organization that is dedicated to developing communities and to contributing to the betterment of the engineering profession.
Cathy Leslie is a licensed Civil Engineer in Colorado with over twenty years of experience in the design and management of civil engineering projects. She has a B.S. in Civil Engineering from Michigan Technological University. Her areas of technical expertise include transportation facilities and storm water facility design. She coordinates all facets of engineering, such as civil, geotechnical, environmental, and water quality engineering; and ensures the success and cost-efficiency of numerous projects.
As the Executive Director of Engineers Without Borders – USA, she began her work in developing countries as a Peace Corps Volunteer stationed in Nepal where she developed solutions related to drinking water and sanitation projects. Her technical interest lies in creating solutions for engineering projects which integrate the needs of the client along with the sustainable needs of the environment.
