Hawai'i Bibliovision
September 2, 8:00pm - 9:00pmOlelo Community TV, Channel 55
Hawai’i Bibliovision’s fourth season features some of today’s most exciting and thought-provoking writers, scholars and artists. Sponsored by the UH Manoa English department, Hawai'i Bibliovision airs the first Tuesday of every month, 8 pm, on Olelo 55.
The show on Sept. 2 spotlights a talk by John Greyson, critically-acclaimed video artists, filmmaker and writer. Professor Greyson’s talk, “The Queen’s Sore Throat,” was co-sponsored by UHM-English Department, the Joseph Keene Chadwick Endowment Fund.
John Greyson studied visual art in London, Canada before emerging on the Toronto video art scene in the 1980s. Much of his early, formally freewheeling video work is engaged with gay rights, AIDS activism and censorship, and he has woven many of these stylistic and thematic aspects into his later more narrative driven feature-length works.
He made his first feature, URINAL, in 1988, and in 1991 attended the Canadian Film Centre (CFC) in Toronto. Greyson has gone on to direct five more feature films, episodes of MADE IN CANADA and QUEER AS FOLK, and countless short films.
His work has earned him numerous awards internationally, including the Best Picture Genie for LILIES in 1996, and the Toronto Arts Award for media arts in 2000.
He currently teaches in the Film and Video Department at York University, Canada.
