Kanalu Young Services and Memorial
September 13, 8:30am - 4:30pmManoa Campus, St. Mark's Church and Kamakuokalani
8:30 am: Visitation at St. Mark's Episcopal Church on Kapahulu Avenue.
9:15-11:15 am: Prayer Service at St. Marks.
12:30-4:30: Celebration of Life and Memorial at Halau o Haumea, Kamakakuokalani Center for Hawaiian Studies, 2645 Dole Street.
Protocol will begin at KCHS front entrance 12:30 pm. Guests are asked to gather there behind the family as KCHS formally welcome everyone into the building. KCHS will then offer ho'okupu to the iwi kupuna who are buried there at Kapuakapuakea, and all are welcome to do so as well.
After the chant protocol everyone will go down into Halau o Haumea, where there will be an open mic. If you would like to pay tribute to Kumu Kanalu in any way, then please email your name to Pua Kauila at kauila@hawaii.edu, so a count can be take of how many speakers/performers will be in attendance.
Please remember there is no smoking or alcohol at Kamakakuokalani as it is a wahi kapu.
The family asks that there be no wreathes; however lei are appropriate. Any cash donations or monetary gift should be made out to George Young or if you prefer, make a contribution to Kanalu's UH Foundation Scholarship Fund. The scholarship name is University of Hawaii Foundation Nā Lei ‘Ōiwi Scholarship Fund.
