The Clothesline Project

October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month.

The Clothesline Project is part of a national and international campaign to raise awareness about domestic violence. Survivors, victims, family and friends of those who have experienced violence use words and artwork to decorate shirts that are displayed on a Clothesline. The shirts are an educational tool for those who view the Clothesline and a healing tool for those who design shirts.

The Women’s Center, in partnership with the Domestic Violence Action Center, will be displaying shirts designed by women in Hawai‘i who have experienced domestic violence. The shirts will be hung on a clothesline around the front of the Queen Lili‘uokalani Center for Student Services for public viewing.

Students, staff and faculty will also have the opportunity to design their own mini-paper shirts for a Clothesline Project collage that will be displayed at UH Manoa and Kapi‘olani Community College.
