October 20, 7:00pm - 9:30pmManoa Campus, Art Auditorium
R. Zamora Linmark is the author of the novel Rolling The R's, which he's adapted for the stage, and two poetry collections, Prime Time Apparitions and the just-published Evolution of a Sigh.
A recipient of numerous grants and fellowships, his prose, poetry, and essays have appeared in journals and anthologies in the U.S. and the Philippines.
He has completed a novel, Leche, the sequel to Rolling The R's and a one-man show about the creative process called "You: A Curse In Progress,” and is at work on another novel, a play adapted from a novel by Franz Kafka, a collaboration with a Noh Master from Tokyo, and a collaborative book project with Lisa Asagi, Justin Chin, and Lori Takayesu tentatively titled "Persona". He lives in Manila and sometimes in Honolulu.
He will be revisiting the islands between October 15 and the end of November in connection with the World Premiere of the dramatic adaptation of Rolling the R’s by Kumu Kahua Theatre that will run from October 30 through November 29.
On October 20 in the UHM Art Auditorium, “An Evening with R. Zamora Linmark” will include the author reading from his poetry collections as well as two performances of scenes from the play: one will a litany by a group of women performers, a scene with Zack ended up deleting from the play and the second a scene from the play performed by an actor from the Kumu Kahua cast. Both scenes deal with domestic violence, as October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month. October is also Filipino American History Month, which is particularly appropriate to the ongoing production of Rolling the R’s by Kamua Kahua.
The presentation will take place at 7:30, with a reception at 7:00 and book-signing after the reading and performance.
R. Zamora Linmark’s October 20 presentation is co-sponsored by the following programs at the University: American Studies; Center for Biographical Research; Center for Philippine Studies; English Department; Filipino & Philippine Literature Program; Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Intersex Student Services; Theatre & Dance; Women’s Studies.
