Honolulu, HI, Sept. 11, 2008—On Oct. 22, 2008, Susan Nathan, a noted speaker on Israel and author of the recent book, The Other Side of Israel: My journey across the Jewish-Arab divide, will speak at the University of Hawai‘i at Manoa. Nathan will discuss the current internal crisis in Israel/Palestine in a talk entitled, “The Israeli Palestinian Reality.” Her talk is being sponsored by various UHM departments and community groups; a book signing and reception will follow. The Other Side of Israel has been hailed as a road map for crossing a divide created by prejudices and misunderstandings. As Israel celebrates its sixtieth birthday this year, the issues of segregation and neglect of minority communities have become increasingly serious.
About Susan Nathan
Susan Nathan was born in England and when young visited family and friends in apartheid-era South Africa, the country of her father's birth, where she had several deep encounters with the social and political situation of that country. She later followed the Jewish Law of Return and moved to Israel. From her unique vantage point as a Jewish Israeli living in a Palestinian town in Israel, Nathan examines the history and the present-day political and cultural currents that have created a situation little recognized in the ongoing debates about the future of Israel and the Middle East. She has been featured in several documentaries and is the subject of numerous interviews. Following her US speaking tour, Nathan is invited to testify in the ICJ at The Hague.
