"Imaging the International in Postcolonial Fiction: forays into Ghosh, Desai and Roy"
Professor Sankaran Krishna, Political Science
The talk will focus on how images / understandings / ideas of the international serve to delineate characters and propel the narrative in the novels of Amitav Ghosh, Arundhati Roy and Kiran Desai. The argument is that these novels illustrate the postcolonial idea of the international as a space of desire and self-completion - and yet a space also marked by disappointment and disillusion.
