ITS Brownbags: Excess of Access

February 23, 1:30pm - 3:30pm
Mānoa Campus, Kuykendall Hall, Room 201 Add to Calendar

Special Agent Arnold Laanui of the Federal Bureau of Investigation will be presenting a BrownBag workshop called "Excess of Access", a discussion about human behavioral characteristics and why digital threats are statistically more likely to arise from an individual's risky online behavior than from viruses, trojans or hackers. This talk advocates a paradigm shift in the way we view privacy, data and digital technologies by discussing theories of risk and using these theories to compare probable and possible digital threats.

Laanui’s career with the Bureau has included:

* FBI's Violent Crime/Major Offender Program, member of the FBI's SWAT Team.
* Behaviorial Coordinator.
* Official spokesman of the FBI Honolulu Division.
* Lead investigations in a variety of areas including bank robberies, serial homicides, police corruption, labor racketeering, and computer hacking

Currently Special Agent Laanui teaches throughout the United States as an FBI Advanced Instructor and focuses his efforts as Coordinator of numerous FBI programs to include Training, Community Outreach, and the FBI National Academy. He also speaks to thousands of students and adults each year on numerous topics of cyber security and safety.
