Chinese Brush Painting Demonstration by Yao Si Min

A free demonstration of Chinese brush painting will be held as part of the special events for the exhibition "The Reformer's Brush: Modernity and Traditional Media in China" at the University of Hawai'i at Manoa Art Gallery.

Yao Si Min, artist at the Chengdu Painting Academy and a member of the Chinese Artists' Association in China, leads the demonstration. Under the guidance of painter Zhu Pei Jun, Yao gained skills in traditional Chinese painting. She attended the Sichuan Academy of Fine Arts where she was guided by artist Feng Jian Wu and Professor Li Wen Xin, and was influenced by the concepts of modern aesthetics. Yao uses traditional and contmeporary styles to create paintings of nature that have garnered recognition and awards.

The demonstration will be followed by the free educational Chinese film series at 3:30 in the Art Building, room 101.
