The rain brings many benefits for Hawai‘i and its residents. However, when this water runs off hard surfaces on land and enters the streams or nearshore environment it carries pollutants which can kill coral reef, harm native fish, and cause brown water days.

Fortunately there are proven techniques that individual homeowners and communities can adopt to reduce this threat. On Tuesday, March 22, from 6:00pm -7:00pm Dr. Robert Emanuel, co-author of Oregon Rain Garden Guide: Landscaping for Clean Water and Healthy Streams will be presenting “Rain Gardens and other Techniques for Clean Water and Healthy Streams.”

The event is presented by the University of Hawai‘i Sea Grant College Program and is free and open to the public.
