Kicks for Keiki

November 15, 10:00am - 2:00pm
Mānoa Campus, Campus Center Table/Saunders Hall 2nd Floor Add to Calendar

Kicks for Keiki, sponsored by the Graduate Student Sociological Assocociation, is collecting donations of clothing (new please!), slippers (new please!), school supplies, and/or cash for the children of Kamaile Academy. Kamaile Academy is a not-for-profit charter school in Waianae, which serves children in grades K-10. Many of the students at the school live in shelters, transitional homes, or in tents at the beach. Often these students lack bare school-going necessities such as footwear or proper clothing to wear to school. All donations will go to the school’s ‘core value’ store. Instead of pure handouts, the core value store allocates these items to students through a system that rewards students for good behavior and/or academic achievement. Students are awarded core value dollars by Kamaile teachers/staff, with which they can buy slippers, clothes, supplies from the school store. The idea behind the core value system is that using a merit-based system provides students with fundamental items they lack while teaching them responsibility simultaneously.

We will be accepting donations until Tuesday, November 22, so please give to Kicks for Keiki!
