Bollywood Mondays: 'Rang De Basanti' (2006)
November 28, 3:30pm - 6:30pmMānoa Campus, Hawai'i Institute of Geophysics auditorium (HIG 110)
This explosive film explores the relationship of today's youth in India to the sacrifices of the nationalist generation, and questions what has been lost and what is worth fighting for in modern India.
The film follows a British woman who comes to India to make a movie about her grandfather, a policeman in colonial India. She tries to cast college students as the young Indian nationalists active during the freedom struggle, but at first they fail to relate to the cause. But when tragedy strikes the gang of friends, they realize that contemporary problems parallel those from colonial India and demand action.
'Rang De Basanti' ('Color it Saffron') stars Aamir Khan and was India's entry to the Oscars in 2007. This is the thirteenth movie in the 9th UH Bollywood film series, running every Monday this fall. For a copy of the full schedule, see contact information below.
