Asst. Sec. of State Robert Blake on South Asia Issues

Assistant Secretary of State Robert O. Blake offers a free public seminar on key developments in South Asia.
Topics include progress on India-Pakistan relations and the impact on the war in Afghanistan, as well as the latest political developments in Nepal, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, and the Maldives. Assistant Secretary Blake heads the U.S. State Department Bureau of South and Central Asian Affairs, which deals with U.S. foreign policy and U.S. diplomatic relations with India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, the Maldives, Bangladesh, Nepal, Bhutan, and Afghanistan, in addition to the other Central Asian nations.
From 2006 until his present appointment as Assistant Secretary in 2009, Mr. Blake served as Ambassador to Sri Lanka and the Maldives. Prior to that position he served as Deputy Chief of Mission in New Delhi, India (2003 – 2006) with earlier postings in Tunisia, Algeria, Nigeria, Egypt, and Washington, D.C. He earned a B.A. from Harvard College and an M.A. in international relations from Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS).
