Speaker: Dr. Thomas F. Cargill

Professor of Economics, University of Nevada, Reno

About the Speaker:
Visiting Professor Thomas F. Cargill from the University of Nevada, Reno is a widely renowned domestic and international economist and is particularly recognized for his expertise on the Japanese money and banking system. Given the recent tremendous shocks to Japan’s infrastructure, the government’s management of the country’s money supply and economy will be an ongoing critical global concern.

Professor Cargill is the co-author of The Political Economy of Japanese Monetary Policy and Japan Since 1980. A historian of the Japanese financial system, he is able to assess Japan’s current situation against a long historical context of Japanese economic cycles liberally seasoned with political and cultural influences.

Dr. Cargill’s main areas of research include financial markets, regulation, and monetary policy; financial and monetary systems in Asia with an emphasis on Japan; and applied econometrics, regional economics, and history of economic thought.
