Damien by Aldyth Morris
July 29, 2:00pm - 3:30pmMānoa Campus, Kennedy Theatre
Father Damien, now Saint Damien, was born in Belgium in 1840 and came to Hawaii in 1864. He was ordained at Our Lady of Peace Cathedral and in 1873 and chose to serve the needs of people with Hansen's disease who had been forcibly relocated to an isolated peninsula on the island of Molokai.
Join us for this riveting drama of Saint Damien's life in Hawaii by Aldyth Morris and performed by Hawaii actor Dann Seki. Dann is a stage and screen actor as well as a storyteller. He is a member of the Screen Actors guild (SAG), the American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (AFTRA) and the Hawaii State Theatre Council (HSTC).
From Aiea, Hawaii, Dann has degrees in Audiology and Health Services Administration. As an actor, he has appeared in numerous local commercials, most of the television shows filmed in Hawaii, and on stage at many of the local theatres. A storyteller since 1994, he has performed statewide at various libraries and senior centers; at the Windward Community College Storytelling Festival, the Talk Story Festival, First Night Hawaii, and on a statewide tour of “Pearl Harbor Remembered,†to name but a few.
Presented by the Manoa Readers/Theatre Ensemble, a co-production of the University of Hawaii at Manoa College of Languages, Linguistics and Literature and Outreach College.
Support is provided by the Halekulani Corporation, the Manoa Arts & Minds Series, Hawaii Council for the Humanities, the Manoa Foundation, and Manoa: A Pacific Journal of International Writing.
