Bollywood Mondays: 'Lagaan' (2001)

September 17, 3:30pm - 7:15pm
Mānoa Campus, Hawai'i Institute of Geophysics auditorium (HIG 110) Add to Calendar

This week's blockbuster represents perhaps the best-known Bollywood film outside of India. It follows one village's attempt to resist the oppression of British colonial rule in the 1890s.

Featuring superstar Aamir Khan and enough romance, whimsy, drama, and song & dance to satisfy the biggest Bollywood purist, 'Lagaan' was nominated for a Best Foreign Language Film Oscar for its compelling story of cross-cultural encounters and the persistence and creativity of Indian society under colonialism. Cricket fans also will be particularly pleased.

This is the third movie in the 11th UH Bollywood film series, running every Monday this fall. For a copy of the full semester film series schedule, see contact information below.
