Bollywood Mondays: 'Guide' (1965)

October 1, 3:30pm - 6:30pm
Mānoa Campus, Hawai'i Institute of Geophysics Auditorium (HIG 110) Add to Calendar

'Guide' depicts a heart-rending love triangle featuring favorite stars of the 1960s and an all-time classic soundtrack by legendary composer S.D. Burman. Raju (Dev Anand), a fast-talking guide in a scenic tourist town (Udaipur), encounters Rosie Marco (Waheeda Rehman), an unhappy dancer trapped in a loveless marriage to a dour but wealthy archaeologist.

As love blossoms between Raju and Rosie, each begins to experience profound transformations. Considered by many to be an allegory for India in the 1960s, 'Guide' balances the complex themes of nation-building and modernization with world-renunciation and spiritual self-realization. BYOT (bring your own tissues).

This is the fifth movie in the 11th UH Bollywood film series, running every Monday this fall. For a copy of the full semester film series schedule, see the contact information below.
