BikeUHM 2012: Halloween on Wheels
October 31, 10:30am - 12:30pmMānoa Campus, Hamilton Library Courtyard
The second annual BikeUHM (pronounced “bike-umâ€), a fair to promote bicycling to the UH MÄnoa campus expands its safety message and seeks input from skateboarders about how to make our campus more skateboard-friendly.
BikeUHM 2012: Halloween on Wheels features a contest for best costumes worn by a “Gluteus Ghoul†(cyclist), a “Trick-or-Treater†(skater), and even the best “Spooky Spokes†(decorated bike). Prizes provided by BikeFactory Hawaii and WeCar by Enterprise. Judging for the costume contest begins at 12:15pm.
FOR SKATERS:
BikeFactory Hawaii will present information, displays, and skateboarding demos.
FOR CYCLISTS:
The student volunteer association Cycle MÄnoa will be offering free bike repairs, as well as information on bike maintenance and cycling safety. The “Red Hot Ladies†of the Hawaii Bicycling League will hold their popular flat-tire clinic. And UHM’s Commuter Services will have on display their new bike repair station, which will be permanently installed in the Athletics Complex.
Additionally, the University’s Campus Security division will be demonstrating how to best secure a bicycle to reduce the chance of theft. Friendly competitions will be staged at a nearby bike rack with a free bike helmet or first aid kit going to those cyclists who can correctly lock up their bike quicker than one of Campus Security’s Bike Patrol officers.
Also celebrating Halloween on Wheels will be representatives from WeCar car sharing program.
BikeUHM 2012 is sponsored by BikeFactory Hawaii; Cycle MÄnoa; Hawaii Bicycling League; and University of HawaiÊ»i at MÄnoa’s Bicycling Committee (Move with Aloha initiative), Commuter Services, and Campus Security.
