"Preliminary results from two recent field experiments"
Abstract: Full depth microstructure observations were recently made in the Samoan Passage and at the Equator. The vast majority of the bottom water in the North Pacific limb of the meridional overturning circulation flows northward through the Samoan Passage. Substantial water mass modification occurs at the sills within this 'choke point'. At the equator 90 profiles were taken over a 2 week period, with the strongest dissipations being above the equatorial undercurrent. This seminar will be a survey of preliminary analysis.
