Waves of Change: Indicators and Impacts of Climate Change for Pacific Islands
February 22, 2:00pm - 3:15pmMānoa Campus, Tokioka Room, Moore 319
Melissa Finucane (East-West Center) with responses from Victoria Keener (East-West Center) and Stanton Enomoto (Pacific Islands Climate Change Cooperative – Hawaiʻi)
The Pacific Islands Regional Climate Assessment (PIRCA) is an ongoing process of assessment and information exchange among scientists, natural and cultural resource managers, government agencies, businesses, and communities in the Pacific Islands region. The 2012 PIRCA report highlights key indicators of climate change in the region, such as increasing air and sea surface temperatures, rising mean sea levels, changing rainfall distributions and climatic extremes, and changing island habitats and species distributions. Dr Finucane will provide an overview of the changing climate conditions and discuss the serious challenges posed by these changes for island communities.
This series of seminars and films is intended to prompt discussion of issues related to the topic of the Center for Pacific Islands Studies’ conference "Waves of Change: Climate Change in the Pacific Islands and Implications for Hawai‘i," 4-6 April 2013.
