PULSE, an MFA thesis exhibition by Jonathan Swanz
March 17, 2013 - March 22, 2013Mānoa Campus, Commons Gallery, Art Building
In his MFA thesis exhibition "PULSE," Jonathan Swanz utilizes architectural video installations and performance to explore behavioral relationships between human bodies and the material world. Three interrelated pieces—"Skin," "Transmutant," and "Gravity Well"— collectively offer an experiential alternative to what Swanz acknowledges as a socio-cultural dislocation of human consciousness from the physical body. "PULSE" provides an immersive time-based and human-scaled expression of material state change to assist in reclaiming the intuitive knowledge of humans relating to the body as part of the living energy world.
The exhibition "PULSE" runs from Sunday, March 17 through Friday, March 22. An opening reception will be held on Sunday, March 17 from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Commons Gallery.
Performances of "Transmutant"-- Sunday, March 17 at 6:30 p.m. and 7:00 p.m.; Tuesday, March 19 at 3:00 p.m. and 3:30 p.m.; Wednesday, March 20 at 11:00 a.m. and 11:30 a.m.
