Race, Racism, and Health Inequities

Gilbert C. Gee, PhD, is a Professor in the Department of Community Health Sciences at UCLA. His research examines how racial discrimination and other forms of structural disadvantage contribute to health inequities. His research has been honored with a Merit Award from the National Institutes of Health and two Scientific and Technical Achievement Awards from the Environmental Protection Agency.
He received his bachelor's in neuroscience from Oberlin College, his doctorate from Johns Hopkins University, and post-doctoral training in sociology from Indiana University. He is the incoming Editor of the Journal of Health and Social Behavior. His current projects focus on: (1) the development of new ways to measure discrimination; (2) longitudinal changes in the experience of discrimination and health; (3) the study of discrimination and health among diverse populations in the United States, Japan, and the Philippines.
