How Do Images Mean? Introducing Visual Literacy with Jaimey Hamilton
July 30, 6:30pm - 9:00pmMānoa Campus, Krauss 12
Through this introduction to the field of contemporary visual and media literacy, learn how to construct and identify effective and engaging images that connect with viewers.
Learn the components of a visual message and how to assess its power. By the end of the seminar, you should be able to identify the function of visual metaphors and other tropes in dominant forms of media culture and learn some tools for creating more complex forms of visual communication. With a new vocabulary for visual critique, you become more precise observers and creators of the visual world.
Jaimey Hamilton is assistant professor of Contemporary Art and Critical Theory at UHM. She also directs Intersections, the visiting artist and scholar program for the Art and Art History Department. www.jaimeyhamilton.com
