Digital Image Use 101: Finding and Using Images From the Internet

September 18, 11:30am - 12:30pm
Manoa Campus, Room 113, Hamilton Library Add to Calendar

Are you confident in finding and using images from the Internet? Do you know about "fair use"? Can you distinguish images in different license conditions, such as public domain and Creative Commons? This workshop will introduce tips for finding, identifying, and using digital images for your academic work and beyond. Knowing what resources are available on the Internet and using them properly are critical skills for succeeding in your academic and professional career. Participants will learn how the digital image industry works, tips for searching images, various online resources, how to avoid copyright violation, how to develop a critical eye for identifying the credibility of digital images, and how to cite images in your paper and projects.

There will be also a demonstration of ARTstor, a digital image database that provides 1.6 million downloadable images for educational purposes.
