Building Communities Through Film: Hawai'i Women in Filmmaking

Vera Zambonelli, Founder and Creative Director of HWF, will talk about her work at Hawai’i Women in Filmmaking, a creative and safe space where film and media-makers connect, create, mentor, and inspire current and future generations of women to explore and pursue careers in the field of filmmaking. She will be screening and discussing short films made by young women and girls from the Summer Reel Camp for Girls initiative, including: Little Fish, Fruit Punch, Ellipses, Kahiau, and A Dream Passed On.

Vera Zambonelli is a doctoral candidate at the UHM Department of Urban and Regional Planning and her dissertation centers on placemaking and everyday interculturalism. Her research interests include community building through the arts, film, story-telling, gender equality, and youth empowerment.
