U.H. Mānoa’s Hawaiian College presents “Kanaka Connections to Place, Naming, and Reflections on Mentorship”

HONOLULU – Hawai‘inuiākea School of Hawaiian Knowledge (HSHK) at the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa announces the latest presentation as part of the Native Hawaiian Scholar Brown Bag Series. Dean Maenette Benham says, “two of our faculty members, Dr. Kapā Oliveira and Dr. Kekuewa Kikiloi, are experts in the fields of Hawaiian geography and archeology and will discuss their individual research on kanaka relationships to place and naming.” Both Oliveira and Kekuewa are former Mellon-Hawaiʻi Fellows. The presentation will be of particular importance to those with interests in the practice of naming, kanaka relationships to place, and the Northwest Hawaiian islands. Haumāna, kumu, keiki, and kūpuna all are invited to attend! The series is presented by The Kohala Center, Nā Hawai‘i ‘Imi Loa, and Hawai‘inuiākea School of Hawaiian Knowledge, and the Judith Dion Pyle’s Dean Chair.
