The Attack on Pearl Harbor--Lesser Known Facts
Doug Shinsato
Advisor to digital media company, Heyou
Doug Shinsato is a Japanese-American author and retired business executive who spent most of his business career in Japan and Asia. He served as chief executive and in other top management positions in companies such as Siebel Systems, PTC, Autodesk, Interactive Intelligence, Deloitte Tohmatsu Japan, and EDS/A.T. Kearney. He also served on the faculty of the Graduate Business School of Sophia University in Tokyo. Shinsato earned his MBA from the University of Southern California and his JD from Stanford Law School.
As a "hobbyist historian," Shinsato co-translated the autobiography of Mitsuo Fuchida, leader of the Imperial Japanese Navy's attack on Pearl Harbor. He has also worked on the translation into Japanese of Elaine Fischel's Defending the Enemy: Justice for the WWII Japanese War Criminals. He recently published 101 Lesser Known Facts Related to the Attack on Pearl Harbor which was based on his research for the two translations and on discussions with Pacific War participants or their family members including the writer of the book’s Foreword, Shigehiko Togo, a former Washington Post reporter and grandson of Shigenori Togo, Japanʼs Foreign Minister from October 1941 until September1942. The book begins in 1853 with the Tokyo Bay arrival of the US Navy's Black Ships and concludes with lessons from the Tokyo War Crimes Trial.
Shinsato is an advisor to Heyou Entertainment, Inc., a digital media company founded by actor Tom Skerritt and independent film producer Larry Estes and has appeared on CNN, BBC, and South Africa Broadcasting.
