January 31, 1:00pm - 2:00pm
Mānoa Campus, St. Johns 11
Michael Wolfe, a poet and translator from northern California, will read from and talk about his new collection of translations from the ancient Greek epitaphs, CUT THESE WORDS INTO MY STONE, recently published by Johns Hopkins University Press.
He gathers together a broad cross-section of timeless voices summing up the lives of Greeks across their society so succinctly and vividly that they seem to speak in the present tense.
U.S. Poet Laureate Kay Ryan called this volume, “Exquisite, economical proof that nothing ever changes. A wonderful book!†Richard Wilbur called Wolfe’s epitaph translations, “Simply stunning!â€
Michael Wolfe, the author of ten books, is a recipient of the Amy Lowell Traveling Poets Scholarship and Executive Producer of numerous documentary films for PBS.
