Pacific Region Highlights of the 3rd National Climate Assessment

On May 6th, President Obama will release the 3rd National Climate Assessment, the nation’s most comprehensive analysis of climate change impacts.
East-West Center Research Fellow Victoria Keener will moderate this public briefing by lead authors of the Hawai‘i and Pacific region section of the assessment, along with other climate scientists. The panel will examine regional highlights of the report, including Pacific island climate trends, challenges and adaptations, and the broader importance of the region with respect to such issues as climate security, environmental sustainability, public health, coastal adaptations, and immigration.
There will be time for questions and answers with a panel of assessment chapter authors, including:
- John Marra, Coastal Geology, National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration
- Thomas Giambelluca, Climatology and Hydrology, University of Hawai‘i
- Deanna Spooner, Environmental Policy and Management, Pacific Islands Climate Change Cooperative
- Steve Miller, Endangered Species Conservation, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service
- Maxine Burkett, Environmental Law, University of Hawai‘i
