Topic: " DEVELOPING BUSINESS OPPORTUNITIES IN INDONESIA: Converging Bali and Hawaii’s needs through the Sister-State Partnership"

Speaker: Board of Directors Hawaii Indonesia Chamber of Commerce

On April 14th 2014, Governor Neil Abercrombie signed the Bali-Hawaii Sister State Initiative. This memorandum of understanding lays out the partnership’s objectives, including mutual cooperation in the development in these four areas: (1) tourism and culture, (2) trade and investment, (3) agriculture, environment, and public works, and (4) education, youth and sport. This sister state initiative strengthens the collaboration between the U.S. and Indonesia. The panel, featuring members of the Hawaii Indonesia Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors, will discuss the different areas where Hawaii can play significant roles in broadening the collaboration between the U.S. and Indonesia.

About the Panel:

Ronny Adhikarya, Ph.D.,M has a 40-year career in international development, as senior staff at the World Bank, the United Nations, etc. Prior to retirement, he served as United Nations/FAO Representative & Country Director for Pakistan until 2005. He was an East-West Center’s Researcher/Fellow for most of 1972-80.

Dick Baker served in embassies in Singapore, Indonesia, and Australia. He also spent several years in Washington DC at the State Department and as a State Department congressional fellow working under international affairs experts Representative Jonathan Bingham and Senator John Glenn.

David Day is one of the region’s leading international legal practitioners, with special emphasis on Asia. He is a frequent speaker, facilitator, trainer and media commentator & host on international business, foreign policy, geopolitics and legal topics involving the Asia/Pacific Region.

Representative Gene Ward, Ph.D., serves as the House Minority Leader Emeritus and Vice Chair of the House Committee on Economic Development & Business. He served in USAID Office of Democracy and Governance and promoted democracy throughout the world after writing text on the ills of campaign finance for developing countries.

Major General Darryll D. M. Wong assumed the position of Adjutant General, for the State of Hawaii on Jan 9, 2011. As State Adjutant General, he oversees the training and readiness of the 5,500 soldiers and airmen of the Hawaii National Guard. He is also the director of State Civil Defense, provides direct support to the Office of Veterans Services, and is the Homeland Security Advisor to the Governor.
