UNABRIDGED: 2015 Bachelor of Fine Arts Exhibition
April 26, 2015 - May 15, 2015Mānoa Campus, The Art Gallery at the University of Hawai‘i at MÄnoa
Almost 30 imminent graduates from the B.F.A. program in the Department of Art + Art History at the University of Hawai‘i at MÄnoa are pleased to present their latest works in "UNABRIDGED: 2015 Bachelor of Fine Arts Exhibition."
The students’ collective statement: When something is abridged, it becomes a lesser, filtered product of the original form. In the arts, it is important for work to be produced without filters, as this fosters a clear message and creates honest work. Above all, our messages as artists are things that need to be heard without distortion so that clear channels of communication can be made.
"UNABRIDGED" suggests each student’s full journey and near completion of coursework towards a B.F.A. degree, as well as the accomplishment and creation of his or her most challenging and ambitious artwork yet. A bridge can symbolize the crossing from one point to another as art students graduate from UHM and transition into the next chapter of their lives.
This group exhibition is a culmination of a semester-long focused exploration of professional studio practice. The Graphic Design program presents its students’ work in The Commons Gallery. The works of the students in the Studio Art program are featured at The Art Gallery at the University of Hawai‘i at MÄnoa. Their pieces in ceramics, drawing and painting, electronic arts, fiber, glass, photography, performance, printmaking, and sculpture show a diverse range of ideas and techniques.
