"Waikiki Parc Features Tokyo Midtown Awards"

A selection of award-winning works from the prestigious Tokyo Midtown design competitions are highlighted as part of an expanded arts partnership of the University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa (UHM), the Halekulani and its sister hotel, the Waikiki Parc. The competitions from 2008 – 2013 are represented in this exhibition.

The esteemed and much-anticipated Tokyo Midtown Awards for art and design have been held annually since 2008. The competition attracts emerging and established artists, designers, architects, art directors, and graphic designers, as well as students. Judges consider the entries and award prizes. The winners are on view for the public at Tokyo Midtown. Several of the designs have had commercial success. Tokyo Midtown is a contemporary urban development that opened in 2007 in the center of Tokyo’s Roppongi district. A unique city within a city, this complex includes the Midtown Tower, the tallest building in Tokyo, and consists of offices, residential spaces, retail stores, restaurants, entertainment, recreational facilities, gardens, the Ritz-Carlton Tokyo hotel, the Suntory Museum of Art, as well as spaces for public art, the design museum 21_21 Design Sight, the Tokyo Midtown Design Hub, and much more. Tokyo Midtown and UHM have recently established a partnership that brings the grand prize winner of the art competition to the Department of Art + Art History for presentations and to work with students.

Public Reception: Thursday, April 2, 2015 / 6:00 – 8:00 p.m.
